WordCamp Invaders

WordCamp Portland

This Saturday is WordCamp, but I’m sure you already know that. Well, what you may not know is that many of the WordCamp organizers, speakers, and sponsors will be kickin’ it @beerandblog this Friday pre-funking for the next day’s festivities.

Beer and Blog is a great weekly blogging gathering (a.k.a. the Portland blogger happy hour) that happens to have been started by Justin Kistner, one of our WordCamp presenters. This Friday September 26th, WordCamp Portland invades Beer and Blog as an unofficial pre-conference gathering. Join Beer and Blog at the Green Dragon (928 SE 9th Avenue – just south of Belmont) and hang out with a bunch of Portland bloggers and other WordCamp attendees.

Come network early when it’s easy and under the influence. If you’ll be there you can RSVP on Upcoming.

Arrrr, it’s off to St. Johns today matey!

pirate While St. Johns itself may have its own history with pirates, today’s headline is inspired by the fact that it is national Talk Like a Pirate Day. And, on this glorious day, Beer and Blog will be taking a field trip to the Leisure Public House. Here to tell you all about it is our St. Johns correspondent, mediaChick:

mediaChick Due to completely mysterious forces (ahem) a Special Edition of Beer and Blog will be at Leisure Public House in the St. Johns neighborhood tomorrow. We love the always attentive and accommodating Green Dragon Pub, of course, but we’re due for a field trip. Let’s hit the pavement and head North!

However, for those of you who still need convincing to board the Beer and Blog Express, I present to you mediaChick’s:

Top 5 Reasons You Should Haul Your Carcass to St. Johns

Leisure Public House

  1. Happy hour is from 4-6pm, as is Beer and Blog. Coincidence? I think not. Beer and booze are a $1 off and pitchers are $2 off, as are the bruschetta (applewood smoked bacon, marinated artichoke, build your own)
  2. The Leisure Public House has a very cool bar that must be fondled. It is curvy and made of reclaimed wood and metal. The bar top is concrete sculpted and pleases me greatly. If you have a thing for functional art you have to check this out.
  3. St. Johns is not “too far away.” Seriously, let’s put this misconception to rest! It is less than 5 miles from I-5 North, and if you get there via Willamette Blvd., your journey will mostly traffic light free with gorgeous views. (No views for the driver, though. Keep your eyes on the road, buddy!)
  4. History rocks! This is a neighborhood full of character…and characters. We won’t be too far into the main retail district, but the building has some stories to tell. And some of them are even true!
  5. The miscellaneous, yet delightful, discoveries: jukebox, generous outside patio, ping-pong table, bocce, wifi, and a sleepy and snuggly pub cat.

Hope to see all your lovely carcasses at Leisure Public House for the Special Edition of Beer and Blog. Meow!

Looks like it will be a nice day for “working”

The little weather widget on my Mac tells me that it will be 80 tomorrow. The perfect temperature for a pint in the shade of Green Dragon’s outdoor patio. I’ve already seen some folks looking to get some blog help, so bring more questions and support on down tomorrow. I’ll be working on a front page design for a new WPMU BuddyPress community. Should be a fun thing to share with those interested in a WordPress ecosystem.

I know we’ve got Inverge going on this weekend, so if you’d like to grab a happy hour drink and share your conference experiences, you’ll find some friendly ears. Let people know you’ll be there by RSVPing on Upcoming.
