No field trip today

Alex Williams and a few of the cats from St. Johns and I were talking about taking a field trip up to St. Johns, but then we forgot this week was Gnomedex. So, we’re just going to get together and drink beer! I know I need some help with a Wordpress MU install I’m trying to get rolling. What kind of help do you need today? If you post it as a comment, someone could see it and come up to you to offer help. How effin’ sweet would that be?!!

Here it is on Upcoming.

It’s going to be a hot one today

Ok, this time we really are going to be outside. And, it’s going to be a hot one. It’s a work session today, so I’m wondering if we should do something like bring a kiddie pool. Man, if someone had one of those fans from the NFL sidelines that blew misted air, you should bring it! I’m strongly considering a water gun or two myself.

Whatever you gotta do to keep cool, this is the day to do it! RSVP on Upcoming.

TeachStreet to sponsor the tab tomorrow!

TeachStreet Thanks to Brian Westbrook, we have a sponsor for tomorrow that will be buying some food and beverages for tomorrow. I’ll ask their CEO, Dave Schappell, to say a few sentences about what TeachStreet is all about and then I’ll introduce our speaker. Dave and Brian will be at the Thatch Tiki Bar tonight as well.

My what an exciting Beer and Blog we’re going to have tomorrow! Brand new outside area reserved for us at the Green Dragon, sweet speaker with a cool topic, and now a sponsored tab for the attendees!!

Melissa from Back Fence PDX will share narrative techniques for blogging

During our time of coming together over beers, we’ve covered technical topics and design topics, but we haven’t had as many about writing topics. So, this week we’re going to hear from Melissa Lion of Back Fence PDX fame who will be sharing some narrative techniques that can be applied to blogging. If you haven’t had the good fortune to meet Melissa yet, here’s some background about her from her site:

Melissa Lion is a Random House novelist. Her second novel, Upstream, is under option for a motion picture. She is a regular contributor to Bookslut, which Time magazine voted one of the top 50 websites, The Oregonian, and LifeWire, a New York Times company. She has taught English Composition and Creative Writing at Saint Mary’s College of California and Pepperdine University. She is 32 years old.

I know more than a few of you have had the chance to catch one of the Back Fence events, but if you haven’t there’s a chance to catch the next coming up this August 13th, which is the same day that Turoczy is hosting Lunch 2.0. Should be a fun day.

Some additional exciting news is that the Green Dragon is rolling out a new space for us to try!! We’re going to be meeting outside in the lot between the Green Dragon and the old Q-Hut (that weird half-pipe building on the corner of SE 9th and Morrison). They are setting up 9 picnic tables for us and I’m bringing a sweet extension cord with a power box for laptops. This is something that they are opening initially for us, but they are looking to support the PDX tech scene, so come check out what they’re doing with this new space (and hear some of their upcoming plans).

Looking forward to seeing everyone there! If you’re coming, let people know by RSVPing on Upcoming.

UPDATE: Got some pics of the new area at the Green Dragon for us.
